Latest Updates from Our Project:

Spotlights: Evergreen and ZJN
14 days ago – Fri, Apr 12, 2024 at 03:54:58 PM

Incoming waveband, Pilots!

As we mentioned in our last update, we want to provide ongoing looks within the world of SALVAGE: Deep Space as we complete the production process. This week we continue looking at the corporations enabling and shaping life in Sol System. Corporations you’ll need to deal with if you want to make a living as a Salvage Pilot.

In the Post-Event Solar System, an individual’s loyalties are often shaped by their locales or corporate affiliations. These two companies fall within the general influence of FifeCo, with their headquarters on Epoch Station. We’re talking about the medcorp Evergreen and the engineering company ZJN.

Spotlight: Evergreen

Evergreen stands as the primary provider of health necessities within Epoch Station, offering a comprehensive array of medications, medical implants, and treatments designed to combat the diverse range of ailments associated with space life. Their reputation precedes them, characterized by a tendency to develop groundbreaking permanent cures and solutions, albeit often at exorbitant prices. This pricing strategy frequently nudges the majority of citizens toward opting for temporary treatments or embracing cybernetic enhancements as alternatives.

Their rationale for these steep costs finds its roots in their continuous pursuit of innovation. Evergreen frequently justifies their pricing model by emphasizing the substantial financial resources required for the development of further advancements in the field. Thus, while their products may come with a hefty price tag, they assert that these investments are essential for pushing the boundaries of medical science and ensuring a healthier future for all inhabitants of the station.

Spotlight: ZJN

ZJN, with roots predating The Event, is seen by the public as FifeCo’s main corporate rival. Initially a mining corporation, they transitioned to habitat construction and development to fill the dire need after The Event. An industrial powerhouse, they have expertise in mining asteroids for materials and energy, which made them well suited to the job. Many Post-Event habitats of medium or small size are ZJN-pattern, especially on smaller asteroids.

However, their reputation took a major hit 20 years before our story takes place, when a massive space station they constructed suffered a devastating failure, resulting in significant loss of life. This is known as the ‘ZJN Tragedy.’ Since then, customers have been wary of ZJN, even though necessity dictates a certain amount of interfacing with the engineering giant.

Fulfillment Clarification

We have confirmed with WinGo that based on our current timeline we’ll have game boxes fully completed ready for fans and Backers by Gen Con. Leading up to the convention, we’ll be receiving all boxes from WinGo and hand packing each box with love at 3301 HQ. Fulfillment pace will be based on our ability and will take place the week before and weeks immediately subsequent to Gen Con. SALVAGE Shipping Plan
28 days ago – Fri, Mar 29, 2024 at 03:59:50 PM

Hello Pilots!

We here at 3301 Command hope you’re having a fantastic Friday. We’re happy that it’s time to give you another update on SALVAGE: Deep Space, how things are developing, and with a special focus on our Shipping Plan going forward. It’s because of you that we’re able to bring this game to life, and we can’t wait to hear how each of your stories unfold in the Post-Event Solar System.

Project Status

We’re fine tuning some components with our manufacturer WinGo as they help us optimize the game’s layout for production.

For example, we’ve adjusted the layout of Improvement and Modification stickers. If you saw our prototypes at PAX Unplugged or Con of the North, you’ll have seen a large single sheet of stickers. This was unwieldy to use and store, and we’ve replaced it with seven smaller sticker sheets.

The last of these optimizations was completed this week, and we’re now looking forward to our final pre-production prototype. As soon as we have it we’ll be sure to let you know!

Shipping Plan

We’ve drawn a big red circle around Gen Con 2024, and structured our plan to ensure we have boxes in our hands–and on the way to yours–by then. That is one of the biggest events in the industry all year, and sharing SALVAGE with the world on such a broad stage is too great an opportunity to miss.

Once we’ve reviewed and approved the prototype, then it’ll be time to mass produce! While that’s going on there are some t’s we can cross and i’s we can dot to make fulfillment possible. We’ll need some things from you, but we don’t want anything to feel like a surprise. To that end, we wanted to outline our shipping plan–detailing key milestones and what you can expect.

  • Finalize Shipping Quotes
    • We’ll be able to do this based on Prototype Weight
  • Determine Segments
    • Then we’ll want to evaluate how best to distribute the games. We’ll use final head count, distribution, and backer segments to find the most affordable, reliable option.
  • Charge Warning
    • When we’re ready to begin mass production we’ll warn you of incoming charges.
  • Charge Cards
    • Two days after that warning, we’ll charge cards for any shipping or outstanding charges
  • .Shipping Warning
    • 30-40 days before we anticipate receiving the games, we’ll notify you again with the final shipping plan.
  • Address Lock Warning
    • Approx 23 days before we take delivery of the games, we’ll warn you that addresses will be locking.
  • Lock Addresses
    • 21 days before receiving the games, we’ll lock addresses for delivery.
  • 3301 Receives Games
    • There is much rejoicing.
  • Hand Packing
    • We’ll configure the games for Legacy gameplay, add the miniatures, dice, and adversary bases, and seal them with a sticker.
  • Begin Fulfillment Shipping
    • About a week after we begin Hand Packing we’ll start printing labels, packing for shipment, and mailing out orders.

There will be some variability in the timing of these steps, however we’ve made an attempt to give you our best projections. We appreciate your understanding while we evaluate the best ways to tackle the challenges of creating a board game.

Upcoming Spotlights

In the interim, we have lots more to illuminate about SALVAGE, from the agencies that make up its world to the foes you’ll face. Be sure to keep checking in on these updates to get primed towards the SALVAGE way of mind. Next update we’ll explore more of Sol System’s corporate entities, which you’ll encounter during your journey.

Spotlights on Echo & Warne Agency
about 1 month ago – Fri, Mar 15, 2024 at 02:30:40 PM

Waveband incoming, Pilots!

As we continue the process of bringing SALVAGE: Deep Space to your patiently waiting hands, we want to continue giving you insight into the world you’ll be exploring.

The Post-Event Solar System is a rich and vibrant place, full of people who turn the cogs that make the machine of humanity run. With the landmasses and cultures of Old Earth long gone, most now form their loyalty and identity around where they live or what corporate interests they serve.

Although FifeCo holds the most power and influence (read more about them here), it is far from being the only player at the table in Sol System. This week we want to shine a Spotlight on two other major companies: Echo & Warne Agency.

Spotlight: Echo

Media is as much a part of life out amongst the stars as it is on any terrestrial body. Entertainment, marketing, news, and correspondence suffuse a human’s life as much as breath, except for those who go out of their way to avoid it. If you aren’t one of those rare few, then you’ve definitely seen media produced by Echo.

Operating under the umbrella of FifeCo, Echo stands as the primary entertainment hub within Epoch Station. They sell advertising, create and control the primary news media sources, create entertainment properties for streaming, sign musical acts, and touch on every form of media we know. Despite emphasizing an image of “just the facts” impartiality, most people view Echo as FifeCo's tool for disseminating propaganda. They operate on a strict hierarchical basis, with messaging being decided at the top and then passed down.

Like many of the media companies of Old Earth, most people see Echo as a necessary evil. Unless you have the interest and equipment to search out alternate media feeds they’re often the only game in town if you want to unwind after work.

Spotlight: Warne Agency

Without nationstates or governing bodies to supply them, Post-Event Sol System has no official peacekeeping force. Instead, Security Companies are hired to enforce law and order within the stations they occupy. What form that law takes is largely defined by the body that hired them, and can vary in terms of how strict it is. Especially within the inner belt, the big security contracts go to Warne Agency.

Though not officially part of FifeCo, Warne is significantly reliant on them as their primary client. They are Epoch Station's leading private security force, with a reputation for effectiveness that occasionally treads into brutality. Many rumors circulate about their methods, and they are also known for taking over law enforcement roles on the station.

Most denizens of Epoch try to avoid Warne Agents whenever possible.

Fulfillment Progress: Shipping

Pilots, it’s almost time for us to lock down our shipping plan. Our next update will contain all the details, but we wanted to refresh your memory well in advance; we will be confirming, locking, and billing the shipping costs for SALVAGE now that we have finalized our components. This process will start in earnest the end of this month (March 2024.) As many of you know, this can be large lift for small team, and so we humbly request you work with us to ensure the most seamless path to get boxes into your hands.

A Spotlight of FifeCo
about 2 months ago – Fri, Mar 01, 2024 at 04:08:23 PM

Transmission incoming, Pilots!

We’ve got an exciting update for you this week, with progress on our manufacturing pipeline, a quick recap from Con of the North, and a look inside one of the major players in the SALVAGE: Deep Space Solar System: FifeCo.

Manufacturing Update

At the beginning of the year, we started in on the revisions SALVAGE required, based on our pre-production prototypes (read more on that here, and here). During that process, WinGo Games has been a valuable collaborator. We’d like to thank them for their help bringing those revisions to the game, which we hope to review very soon. We’ve received word a new prototype is in the works, arriving sometime in early March.

Provided those components are up to our expectations, or require very minor tweaks, we plan to greenlight mass production upon review of the prototype. We’re very close to the finish line, and are incredibly excited to get game boxes to you.

Recap: Con of the North

We had an absolute blast at Con of the North in Minneapolis recently. Since putting our heads down to finish SALVAGE, we haven’t had much opportunity to engage with the local gaming community beyond the friends we’ve made at past cons. So, this was an invigorating chance to meet other nearby creative teams and like minded individuals. We learned so much about what this community has to offer and we look forward to seeing some new friends at the many events now on our radar. If you think there are any other conventions or meetups in the midwest where 3301 would be a hit, don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know!

Here are some pictures from the con, we were thrilled to see four Salvage Statuettes go to good homes. If you missed the opportunity to pick up a blister of Starting Suit miniatures you can order a set online here. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Spotlight: FifeCo

In the vast expanse of Epoch Station, FifeCo stands as a monolithic entity, its influence permeating every facet of life. If old, unfiltered data repositories are to be believed, a 21st century pioneer in renewable energy, FifeCo's meteoric rise was fueled by government grants and the promise of space colonization. However, after the cataclysmic Event, they seized the opportunity to rise from the chaos, promising stability. Now, two and a half centuries later, they control essential resources, govern trade, protect corporate interests with their own security force, and manipulate media narratives, even securing positions in The Directorial to intertwine their agenda with governmental decisions.

A largely faceless organization, they are known more for their corporate culture and intensely devoted corporate teams. One man stands out among the faceless company agents: Obadiah Sutherland. He is more than FifeCo’s face, though, he is the EpoCorps voice, its spirit, and–in many ways–its very heartbeat. Stories of his confident vision and unwavering determination permeate Epoch Station.

As regular citizens of Sol System, you may have reservations about FifeCo. Attitudes on Epoch range from deep hatred, to general mistrust, to resignation when it comes to the corporate entity “keeping the lights on.” How any individual feels seems largely tied to their reliance on FifeCo, and the efficacy of their media campaigns on the station.

The story of SALVAGE: Deep Space will bring you to the table with FifeCo, but how you deal with this monolithic entity will be entirely up to you. We can’t wait to hear how your story unfolds!

Another Kickstarter We Love: H2O-Pocalypse

Our friends over at Crimson Adder Curiosities have fully funded their project H2O-Pocalypse. We’re thrilled for them, and they have one week left in their campaign. H2O-Pocalypse is a DCC-compatible zine where you play surf punk pirates in a post-apocalyptic future where the ice caps melted and drowned the earth; the rich saw it was coming and took advantage of the situation, leaving everyone else to fend for themselves. So naturally, you travel around, looking for remnants of the old world, raiding elite supply ships, and having surf-offs. We think of it like the Smokers from Waterworld if they knew how to have more fun. If this sounds like your cup of rum, take a look here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crimsonaddergames/h2o-pocalypse

Peek Inside Epoch Station
3 months ago – Fri, Feb 09, 2024 at 03:21:18 PM

Hello Pilots!

We’re all abuzz over here at 3301 HQ, cooking up some spicy new stuff and working with our partners to keep SALVAGE: Deep Space rolling along. These past two weeks we’ve been working with our manufacturer WinGo, connecting with some other indie developers, and prepping for Con of the North! We’re thrilled to have you along on this journey, and we’ve also got a Spotlight this update on where your story in SALVAGE begins–Epoch Station.

Manufacturing Update

Last week we delivered revised designs to WinGo (peek at our most recent Kickstarter Updates for a peek at the latest!) and they’re in the process of working up a final pre-production prototype for our review. As a tabletop game, it’s important to us to go hands-on with components and ensure the game feels good to play.

When we receive that prototype, it will go through one final review before we green-light mass production. We’re as excited to get this into your hands as we hope you are to receive it, and we’re dedicated to spending enough time to make it something we’re proud of.

Spotlight: Epoch Station

Your journey in SALVAGE: Deep Space will begin–and frequently bring you back to–Epoch Station, an imposing orbital metropolis standing as a testament to humanity's ambitious push into the cosmos. Its construction was viewed as the vanguard of that endeavor and the fact that it sustained itself through The Event spoke volumes about the heights humanity could reach through unity and a collective vision. Constructed of materials from Old Earth’s moon and inner asteroids, this station bore witness to an era when the people of Old Earth aimed for the stars. In its heyday, it was the most densely populated and influential site in the Sol system.

The station houses all manner of technical, social, and entertainment venues, serving as the last city of humanity still orbiting third from the sun. Originally constructed with heavy involvement from FifeCo, the station is now wholly in their control and serves as their primary headquarters in the Solar System.

Here you’ll buy cybernetics, acquire leads on jobs, interface with corporate agents, and make alterations to your ship. Epoch will be your home, and the origin for many of the Pilots you might create. We can’t wait for you to step within this massive station and explore what it has in store.

Con of the North: Feb 16-18

This upcoming weekend (Feb 16-18th) we will be at Con of the North in Minneapolis. Established in 1992, Con of the North stands as Minnesota's longest-running gaming convention–taking place at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West. Attendees can immerse themselves in a diverse array of activities, including tabletop roleplaying, board games, card games, miniature wargames, live-action RPGs, networked computer games, and various other offerings. You can also come meet our team, see SALVAGE: Deep Space, and go hands-on with our game components.

We’ll be at Booth 10, and if you know you’re going to swing by hit us up on social to let us know!
