Latest Updates from Our Project:

Peek Inside Epoch Station
10 months ago – Fri, Feb 09, 2024 at 03:21:18 PM

Hello Pilots!

We’re all abuzz over here at 3301 HQ, cooking up some spicy new stuff and working with our partners to keep SALVAGE: Deep Space rolling along. These past two weeks we’ve been working with our manufacturer WinGo, connecting with some other indie developers, and prepping for Con of the North! We’re thrilled to have you along on this journey, and we’ve also got a Spotlight this update on where your story in SALVAGE begins–Epoch Station.

Manufacturing Update

Last week we delivered revised designs to WinGo (peek at our most recent Kickstarter Updates for a peek at the latest!) and they’re in the process of working up a final pre-production prototype for our review. As a tabletop game, it’s important to us to go hands-on with components and ensure the game feels good to play.

When we receive that prototype, it will go through one final review before we green-light mass production. We’re as excited to get this into your hands as we hope you are to receive it, and we’re dedicated to spending enough time to make it something we’re proud of.

Spotlight: Epoch Station

Your journey in SALVAGE: Deep Space will begin–and frequently bring you back to–Epoch Station, an imposing orbital metropolis standing as a testament to humanity's ambitious push into the cosmos. Its construction was viewed as the vanguard of that endeavor and the fact that it sustained itself through The Event spoke volumes about the heights humanity could reach through unity and a collective vision. Constructed of materials from Old Earth’s moon and inner asteroids, this station bore witness to an era when the people of Old Earth aimed for the stars. In its heyday, it was the most densely populated and influential site in the Sol system.

The station houses all manner of technical, social, and entertainment venues, serving as the last city of humanity still orbiting third from the sun. Originally constructed with heavy involvement from FifeCo, the station is now wholly in their control and serves as their primary headquarters in the Solar System.

Here you’ll buy cybernetics, acquire leads on jobs, interface with corporate agents, and make alterations to your ship. Epoch will be your home, and the origin for many of the Pilots you might create. We can’t wait for you to step within this massive station and explore what it has in store.

Con of the North: Feb 16-18

This upcoming weekend (Feb 16-18th) we will be at Con of the North in Minneapolis. Established in 1992, Con of the North stands as Minnesota's longest-running gaming convention–taking place at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West. Attendees can immerse themselves in a diverse array of activities, including tabletop roleplaying, board games, card games, miniature wargames, live-action RPGs, networked computer games, and various other offerings. You can also come meet our team, see SALVAGE: Deep Space, and go hands-on with our game components.

We’ll be at Booth 10, and if you know you’re going to swing by hit us up on social to let us know!

Want to stay in the loop and be the first to know about our latest developments? You should follow us on social media! We're active on Facebook, Instagram, and to a lesser extent Twitter (X?!), and TikTok. You can find us by searching @3301Games on most platforms, and on TikTok, it's @3301Cap.

Miniatures, Updates, and Con of the North!
11 months ago – Fri, Jan 26, 2024 at 03:02:32 PM

Greetings Pilots!

Another update cycle is upon us, and this time we have updates on our manufacturing pipeline, a new product offering, our next upcoming convention, and some expanded detail on one of our revised components: The Space Map!

Our small team at 3301 is so happy to see our dream come closer and closer to becoming a reality. What started as two people with a dream is becoming a community of tabletop gamers and roleplayers with a passion for the stars and beyond. We’re eternally grateful.

Manufacturing Pipeline Update

Our friends at WinGo have been incredibly helpful as we coordinate files back and forth, priming every asset to perfection before we go to print. These moments in the project’s life are critical, and we want to take the right amount of time to ensure the game we deliver is the best possible. Most recently we’ve adjusted the bleed (how much of a graphic bleeds out beyond the goal asset size) and dielines (the line that tells the software where to cut) on quite a few stickers so that they’re easier to manipulate and look premium.

Available Soon: Starting Suit Set

After repeated inquiries, we’re making our starting six exomech miniatures available for purchase! This blister of 6 minis is perfect for use as proxies in your favorite skirmish wargame, or as a backup set for a SALVAGE Campaign.

The set contains the A-3 Perseus, B-13 Aries, K-23 Centaurus, F-3 Chameleon, UC-43 Draco, and UH-16 Pegasus suits, posed and based but unpainted. The custom paint scheme on a Salvage Suit is a big part of their story!

Revision Spotlight: Space Map

One of the biggest revisions we made in this last cycle was to the Space Map. Since this will serve as your hub for ship, crew, and overworld navigation, we wanted to look for every opportunity to fine tune the interactivity and visual readability of the map. In some ways the ship map becomes the chronicle of your campaign, so the longevity and growth of the component was important as well.

New Space Lanes

We redesigned the space lanes, indicating the paths of travel through the Solar System. Even though space is vast and ever-changing, this still serves to illustrate the places you can go and the travel time to get there. Travel time interacts with the Ship Propulsion system, determining how many events could cause complications (or catastrophe!) while you sail the stars. Each one of these magenta travel segments indicates an Event, although upgrading your propulsion system during the campaign could speed things along.

Deeds Field

Additional consideration has been given to the Deeds Field on your Ship Map. These at-a-glance reminders are designed to help players keep track of events that have unfolded, as the impacts of the crew’s decisions influence events that unfold later.

Space Sectors

There will be times during your campaign where you will need to go to regions of space, searching for mysterious destinations or obscured objectives. These space sectors function like destinations, but where a collection of events or encounters can take place. This new approach to design helps provide flexibility for storytelling, and cleans up the visual legibility of the Solar System.

Our goal was to create something you can be proud to own, track your crew’s progress with, and possibly keep around after your campaign as a reminder of your incredible story.

Upcoming: Con of the North

We’re so excited to be at Con of the North, February 16th-18th at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West. This con houses some hometown heroes like Chip Theory and Leder Games, which we’re excited to share the space with. We’ll be at Booth 10 all weekend, and also running Demos of SALVAGE: Deep Space for anyone who wants to try it out. Sign up at our booth, or just find one of us.

We’ll also have the aforementioned Miniature Sets for sale, Salvage Pilot Pins, and sign up on our mailing list for a chance to leave the convention with a painted 70mm Salvage Suit Statuette.

Revisions - Pilot Card Backs, Con of the North!
11 months ago – Fri, Jan 12, 2024 at 04:13:25 PM

Greetings Pilots!

We begin the 2024th Solar Year with new things to share and updates on our progress bringing SALVAGE: Deep Space to life. We took a little time during the holidays to rest and reflect, as we all should, and we’re back at it with renewed passion and enthusiasm. This year is going to be a big one for 3301, as we finish up and deliver SALVAGE before stepping into the great unknown beyond the confines of our co-op legacy tabletop game.

Revision: Pilot Card Backs

After reviewing the prototype, we identified some areas where a little more revision or polish could greatly improve the player experience. To ensure the game we deliver is one we’ll be proud of forever, we took a little time to iterate on these designs and they’re being uploaded right now to our manufacturing partner WinGo Games. Over the next few updates we’ll share some of those changes, going into detail on what you can expect to see in the game box.

This update we’re shining a light on the changes we made to the Pilot Card Backs.

The back of your Pilot Card is like a little character sheet. We wanted to make it user friendly, clear to interact with, and designed to scale well into the late-game story where some Salvage Pilots may be fairly experienced. Striking this balance on a playing card was a fun challenge.

Here is the final Pilot Card Back you’ll see in SALVAGE.

Each Pilot now has a more versatile breakdown for their Background, Qualifications, and Specialties.

  • The field at the top is for your Pilot’s Name, nickname, or callsign. Whichever suits your playstyle.
  • Beneath that is your Background. After notating this, we’ve included fields to write down reminders for your Background’s associated moments, which are resolved as you uncover each character’s unique story.
  • Then the Qualifications tracker gives ample space to write new qualifications for each pilot, along with the Specializations acquired while furthering their skills. Boxes can be checked as each skill is enhanced, with space to annotate the Spec. Any Qualifications beyond five can go into the Notes field.
  • Speaking of, included at the bottom of each card a Notes Field gives space to track anything additional for each Pilot. You never know when a little analog memory supplement is required.

SALVAGE: Project Status

We have some more exciting revisions to share with you in the coming weeks, but rest assured all of these new designs are on their way to WinGo now. Working with an international manufacturer comes with challenges like these, and we’re working through them with all haste. This week we’ve packaged all the new, old, and optimized designs and sent them along.

All Late Pledges are now locked, and we’re in the process of setting up a Pre-Order Store. When you can once again (pre)purchase SALVAGE: Deep Space it will be at the final MSRP. Our deepest thanks to everyone who backed the game, and we can’t wait to keep growing our post-earth salvagepunk family.

We’re now producing the Adversary Base Masters to be used in the casting of the final production bases, and transitioning some of our attention from design to production. In the meantime, however, we’re still producing some miniatures and small-batch promotional goodies.

Upcoming Event: Con of the North

Speaking of small-batch promotional goodies, we’re going to be at Con of the North February 16-18th.

As a Minneapolis-based team, we wanted to rub elbows with others in the community. This is going to be a great opportunity to see the game, talk to our team, and pick up some of our newly offered Starting Six Miniature Set.

If you’re going to be there let us know! Either drop us an email or hit us up on social.

Closing Out 2023
12 months ago – Fri, Dec 29, 2023 at 03:21:59 PM

Congratulations, Pilots!

Another year around our solar body, and what an incredible year it was! Everyone at 3301 has had one hell of a time bringing SALVAGE: Deep Space together, and we can feel our passion and inspiration reflected in the growing fleet of Salvage Pilots we’ve met and shared our world with. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to say thank you for helping us get through 2023, and we can’t wait to repay the honor with SALVAGE in 2024!

Year-End Recap

To help contextualize our year, we wanted to highlight some key moments from 2023 Updates. Stroll down memory lane with us as we speed through the previous 363 days.

  •  On January 6th we revealed the first major iteration on component design, featuring our v.2 Adversary Profile Card (little did we know… it would not be the end.)
  • On March 17th we did a deep dive into Qualifications and Specialties, the backbone of your Pilot’s Non-Combat skills and roleplaying traits. We were also at PAX East!
  • In May we held our in-house playtesting intensive (three weeks) where we put the game through a battery of stress tests and numbers balancing, then we went to Origins.
  • In July we went to Gen Con 2023, a year after unveiling SALVAGE at GC22. Read our update to see the huge leaps the project made from 2022-23.
  • In September we held invitational playtests in the Minneapolis Area (shoutout to our friends at Current Resident for hosting us!) which allowed us to lock design considerations and complete our final art push. Read more on that here.
  • On October 20, after announcing our manufacturing partner WinGo Games, we delivered all files to them so they could create our pre-production prototypes for review.
  • In December we went to PAX Unplugged, where we made the final pledge push before locking everything down. We’re now completing review and revision based on our prototypes, in-person feedback, and our passion to polish this game until near-perfection.

Design Revisions

After an incredibly detailed (two-day) review of our manufactured prototypes from WinGo we’ve caught a slew of edits, updates, and improvements we can bring to SALVAGE. In order to keep the project on track, we’re proceeding with all possible haste to complete these iterations. In the new year we plan to take some time in these Updates to detail key alterations, their reason, and the considerations that went into them. But for now, we wanted to make you aware that revisions are in progress to ensure the game that sits on your shelf forever will be the truest realization of SALVAGE: Deep Space we can conjure. We appreciate your understanding as we follow the proper process. Here’s a peek of what’s to come:

Thank You So Much

Life is such a crazy thing, sometimes. Through all of the ups and downs, we have been able to rely on this 3301 Family to keep us burning through the stars towards the great unknown. This includes each and every one of you who reads our updates, comes back to say hello at the cons, follows us on social media, pings us with fun ideas, and tells your friends about us. At the end of the year, we’re profoundly aware of the fact that in some ways: we’re just three people. But, in other more powerful ways, we are a fleet of Salvage Pilots chasing a bright future amongst the uncertain entropy of the universe. We decide where this journey takes us, and together we’ll discover something special. Thank you so much.

Late Pledges are Locking
12 months ago – Fri, Dec 15, 2023 at 04:26:14 PM

Happy Friday, Pilots!

It's been a huge week for us over at 3301 HQ, with PAX Unplugged handily in the rear-view and our primary focus being the review of the manufactured prototypes from our friends over at WinGo. Between the live demos at the con and the prototypes we've gotten to see such a distilled version of our hard work coming together this month, and it makes us even more grateful to you, our supporters, who are helping us bring this dream to life.

Orders are Locked

Tonight orders for SALVAGE: Deep Space are going to lock so that we can finalize our headcount before manufacturing. If you're reading this message now, you may have already missed the window, but if you'd like to check the BackerKit to be sure, here's a link.

https://salvage-deep-space.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

Updated BackerKit Timeline

In the interest of keeping you informed, we wanted to let you know how things are going to proceed now that the Late Pledges are locked. Backers will have 48 hours from when the store locks to submit survey responses, and we'll reach out to you if you're struggling to help in any way we can. If you're curious about your status, or need help with your order, please contact [email protected].

After that, it may be a while before we charge your credit cards. We would prefer not to hold any of your money until required, and so our billing date will be contingent on when we're required to submit our final payment to our manufacturing partner.

Once we receive the manufactured game boxes from WinGo, we'll follow-up again to confirm your address. And at that point we'll be able to determine the shipping charge. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding, while we figure out the best way to do this.

Exciting Distribution on the Horizon

We need to be vague for the time being, since some things are still in motion, but we wanted to warn you as early as possible that some exciting things in the world of distribution might impact our delivery timeline. The shortest version is, some distributors may prefer to have product shipped directly from WinGo to their locations, and while we're determining the scope of this impact we recognize it might touch our delivery timeline. We hope that you'll understand this is a big step forward for 3301, and it couldn't have happened without you.
